FREMANTLE defender Greg Broughton will meet with club officials today to discuss his place in Ross Lyon’s side ahead of a possible trade interstate.
Broughton has been linked to Port Adelaide and St. Kilda throughout the week but would need to get there via trade as he remains a contracted player.
It is unclear at this stage what Fremantle may want in return for Broughton, however a second round or early third round draft pick may be enough.
The Saints are in the best position, having picks 25 and 26 in the second round as well at 46 and 47 in the third, however it is unlikely any deal would be completed until negotiations between St. Kilda and West Coast are completed over youngster Jamie Cripps and Eagles defender Mitch Brown.
The key defender has played 68 games for the Dockers after making his debut in 2009 but only played 15 games this year after suffering a finger injury.
Broughton was used in several roles throughout his brief 2012 campaign under new coach Lyon, including stints in the midfield and up forwarded.
It has been reported by the Adelaide Advertiser that Port Adelaide may have cooled on 26 year old due to the financial demands in the last year of his contract. The Power have picks 30 and 31 in the second round of the draft.
Should Broughton find himself at St. Kilda in 2013 he will be reunited with his former WAFL mentor, Saints coach Scott Watters.
Watters was at the helm of Subiaco when Broughton played in two of his three premierships for the Lions.
