THERE’S a saying that goes “the streets have eyes”, and that was certainly the case yesterday when on observant footy fan in Perth spotted Melbourne’s Cale Morton metres from Subiaco Oval.

Morton was on his mobile phone and was heard to say “(it) went ok see what happens”.

So with less than two full days remaining in the trade period is a late offer by the West Coast Eagles on the cards  for out of favour Demons midfielder/forward? According to the HeraldSun, that indeed appears to be the case.

Morton, 22, is currently under contract with Melbourne who selected him with the fourth pick of the 2007 Draft but has struggled at the club under new coach Mark Neeld.

The Eagles meanwhile have gained Sherrod Wellingham (trade from Collingwood) but seen Quinten Lynch (free agency) and Koby Stevens (trade to Western Bulldogs) leave the club.

The Eagles remain keen on St Kilda’s  Jamie Cripps but the Eagles are not interested in meeting the terms which St Kilda’s head of football Chris Pelchen insists would involve trading defender Mitch Brown to the Saints.

Whether or not the interest in Morton is a separate line of interest for the Eagles or a contingency if a deal for Cripps can’t be completed remains to be seen.
